Land Curves: Finse

In ‘Land Curves: Finse’ we draw our inspiration from the spectacular Hardangervidda mountain plateau in central southern Norway. A physical sound map is created from 3D models of existing topographic base maps along with photographic documentation from fieldwork in the area. Each listening point in the sound map consists of edited recordings made during fieldwork in August 2022. Datasets of the geological layers have been analysed, where each layer below the reconstructed 3D map represents a particular geological unit and informs the representations of the sounds recorded on site. The sonic elements making up the sound maps then reflect the distinct geological materials, their history and their state.
