Sonification sketches

Here I present a set of sonification sketches I have created from geoscience data or geological processes. They are inspired by phenomena or events I found interesting and demonstrate my journey exploring different approaches to sonfication. The particular methods i use are informed by either the geological processes themselves, the context I am trying to convey and/or an effort to give a fresh perspective on a dataset. All are grounded in sound design.

For best listening experience please wear headphones.

1. Sonifying the weather forecast

Creating an immersive sonic experience to complement the beautiful sky visualisation of the Norwegian (yr.no) weather forecast.

2. Sonifying fold interference patterns

Mimicking the physics of superimposed geological folding processes by combining wave oscillators and filtering.

3. River rumblings: Thaw

Listening to the influence of seasonal snow melt on river dynamics in the Highlands.
